So, I bought Max Payne 3 during the summer sale, and I'm absolutely loving it. On one day, I had been playing for a while, and I'd gotten up to Chapter 13 or something. Exit STEAM but DON'T CLOSE/CANCEL the "Preparing game files" prompt! If you close the prompt all the game files that you've just downloaded get removed! Re-login to STEAM and do a file verification check on Max Payne 3 - all files should be OK. Then you can play the game as normal. Awesome, thanks so much for the help!
