More likely just unwilling - why share power if you don't have to? I don't think being able to unite entire factions by marriage would be fun in the context of Bannerlord: there's so few factions that if you control 2, you can start steamrolling your opponents while becoming more powerful with every conquest - it wouldn't be fun if the AI did it, either.

You could marry your companions in Warband, you just had to land them first. Funnily enough you could also do gay marriages this way, if you were a female character and landed a female companion. The game counted them as men so you could marry them like men. Basically what I'm saying is, bring back my gay marriage workaround TW!
