The soft-top lets more outside noise into the cabin. At speed, the top will flap like crazy. As the soft-top ages, odds are that rain water will get to the cabin & leave you wet. The air-con might not be as effective as with the hard-top, and security is missing (forget about leaving any valuables inside). Hard-Top: The 3000GT Spyder is a halo car hit, inspiring Mercedes and other companies to release folding hardtop convertibles. 2021- BMW discontinues the 4 series hardtop convertible, the last US spec 4 seat HTC. Premium makes have all switched (perhaps “regressed”) to soft tops, and Mitsubishi’s newest car is an Eclipse CUV. From the adverts that I recall - it's either £750 off or a "free" hardtop. My brother who lives in CA had the US version of the MX5 years ago and loved it. Can only assume the later model is only better. As for hard or soft top not sure. But surely one selling point if the MX5 is the open roof so can you get a current MX5 plus a separate hard
For MY22, the MX-5 is still available in two body-styles: the soft-top Roadster and the hardtop RF. (RF GT and Roadster GT RS variants pictured) Of course, the key to this memorable experience is the six-speed manual. It ticks nearly all the boxes with its perfectly weighted clutch, short throw and well-judged ratios.

No I didnt expect it to be quiet like the hard top (my wife has a full soft top for her JL so im familiar with soft top noise). Mine made alot of popping, almost buffeting type drum noise. Wind noise however is comparable or less than a full soft top, but the popping was a bit of an annoyance.

I agree that the hard top is a bit more quiet and less susceptible to wind buffeting on hwy, but a properly fitted soft top is not noisy. plus not a single leak.
