2013 Passat TDI SEL (hers) Jul 15, 2009. #9. The 2.5 isn't especially economical (like our TDIs) nor is it especially powerful (like the 2.0T). I believe the 2.0T even gets slightly better EPA highway economy (like 1 mpg) than the 2.5. If I couldn't get a TDI, I'd definitely get the 2.0T.

The LPG option is the great thing going for the petrol, although I've heard they can do diesel engines now as well. Reply Like.
My engine is the 174 2.5 TDi. I've heard talk of water pump impellers and head gaskets but not on these. These engines are reputedly bullet proof (I suspect VW only changed them to reduce the range they carried and meet Euro 5/6 requirements). Besides, the engine seems healthy. No faullt was found in the service.

Hi, I've had a lot of problems with white smoke recently and having done a lot of surfing and speaking to a few knowledgables the concensus is: White smoke = unburnt fuel. Black smoke =poor air/fuel ratio (i.e. partly combusted fuel, lots of soot) Blue smoke = oil.

I'm doing plugs Saturday as that's what I've been told it is. I'll update once done. The 2.5 TDI doesn't need the glowplugs to start at this time of year mate ~ timing needs checking :ILU: You'll get worse than dermatitis when you go swimming in the shitus, the sea of grey detritus where the sewage ebbs & flows..
